Baricho Water Works Project: Creating employment and enabling skills transfer for Kilifi residents

The Baricho Water Works Project aims to provide an additional 22,000 cubic metres of water to residents of Gongoni and Kilifi town with a targeted water demand to the year 2035. Eng. Gitahi Gichuhi, the assistant resident Engineer of the project shares that they are targeting an additional population of about 220,000 residents to be served with water in the area of Gongoni and an additional 120,000 residents to be served in Kilifi town. The project has created job opportunities, employing about 400 people during its peak. Of this, 300 employees were local residents, some of who were trained as machine operators while others were foremen and drivers.
