When President Uhuru Kenyatta commissioned the Renal Unit at Kericho County Referral Hospital on the 9th of December 2016, Nephrology Nurse, Emily Kirui knew that each day she would eagerly wake up knowing she would transform a life by offering dialysis services to needy patients at the hospital. Since its inception, the facility doors have remained opened through the help of both the County and National Government. According to Kirui, 35 patients are enrolled for dialysis at the hospital with NHIF catering for their bills. However, with a growing demand for dialysis services, she hopes that the government will provide more equipment. The consistency in the provision of services has seen the unit receive referrals from other county hospitals as well. Kirui finds fulfilment in a job and is grateful to the National Government for the Managed Equipment Services programme that has come to the aid of many patients, providing accessible healthcare at the county level.
