Ethiopia Bank-funded WASH project sparks better health, economy and new investments

Water is a basic necessity, yet it remains unavailable to hundreds of millions of people across Africa.

In Ethiopia, a national water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) program has addressed the water supply deficit through a streamlined approach in which government, development actors, NGOs and private sector all come together in an integrated response.

The Ministry of Water, Irrigation and Electricity lead the One WASH National Program through the Water Development Commission and, to date, it has benefited 4.36 million Ethiopians. As a result, more girls are attending school and the incidence of water-borne illnesses has declined.
