The neural basis of speech and music | Fang Liu
Pitch is not only used in music – it can change the meaning of a word, or turn a statement into a question. People with amusia cannot process pitch in music, but have no difficulty using language; by contrast, people with autism tend to be able to process music, but struggle with language. Fang Liu of the University of Reading explains how her work promises to shed light on both conditions.
